Over the past few years, my journey as a developer has been marked mainly by the use of JavaScript on the front end, a language that opened doors for me and allowed me to participate in important projects. I also worked with other technologies in parallel, which broadened my perspective on different ways to build applications. Still, I felt that something was missing: taking a step toward something greater, a language that could challenge me more and, at the same time, connect me to large-scale projects.

Why do you think a piece of technology gets famous?
Because it’s useful!  
Because it’s easy to use!  
Because it improves code quality, performance, or whatever!

Wrong!!

A piece of technology gets famous **when it helps me avoid overwork and leave the office early**.

Think about it. Developers don’t fall in love with frameworks or tools for their fancy syntax or perfect documentation. They fall in love with **anything that makes their life easier, faster, or less painful**.

That’s Technically React Query.

In today’s article, I’m going to play devil’s advocate and argue that maybe… we don’t really need React Query.

In this article, I’m going to show you how a few lines of `useEffect` + `useState` can handle the same tasks React Query does and then we’ll talk about whether all the extra magic is really necessary.

And here we are able to load the data from the server and store it in the state, 0 Complexity, before you tell me that i can have the loading and error from react query there you go :

See Not So Complicated !

Ah, I see what you’re thinking: _’But what if I have a button that triggers the fetch function?_

Let’s say you click that button, and it triggers your fetch. Now imagine you click it **again** before the first request finishes. TADAAA two simultaneous requests hitting your API. That’s what we call a **race condition,** now we don’t even know which data will be shown is it data from first click or second click.

Here is the solution for It

I can switch `ignore` on once the first click happens so when I do the second one while the first has not resolved yet then it won’t resolve.

But Now i can see that you are looking at a different issue which is Data Duplication, As we all know, React components don’t share state by default. Each component creates its own instance of state, meaning component A and component B each hold their own copy of the same data. In other words, the state reference in component A is not the same as the state reference in component B.

So what happens if the same piece of state is used by two different components on the same page,for example, a product card and the items count in the navbar?

As a starting point, each component might trigger its own request. The navbar request could succeed while the product card request fails. Or worse, both succeed but return different values at different times.

Since each component owns its own state, we no longer have a single source of truth. At that point, it becomes very easy for the UI to drift into an inconsistent state, the navbar says one thing, the product card shows another.

At this point, the natural reaction is to look for a shared place to store this state. If multiple components need the same data, why not fetch it once and expose it globally?

This is where React Context usually enters the conversation. By lifting the fetching logic into a context provider, we can finally have a single source of truth shared across the entire page.

See problem Solved you can take that code and make some sort of react custom hook with it to keep it maintanable and there you are.

**Except for one small problem:**  in exchange for predictability, we’ve thrown performance out the window.

Why? Because React Context isn’t designed to distribute  **highly dynamic data**  across an application. It lacks a fundamental feature that real state managers provide: the ability to subscribe to  **specific pieces of state**.

If that sentence sounds confusing don’t worry. It confused me too at first. So let’s break it down.

In simple terms, React Context behaves very differently from libraries like Redux or Zustand. With Context, components don’t subscribe to  _parts_  of the state they subscribe to the  **entire value**.

Imagine your global state looks like this:


`{ name, email, age }`

Now imagine a component that only cares about  `email`. You would expect that component to re-render only when  `email`  changes.

But with React Context, that’s not what happens. Any change to the context value whether it’s  `name`,  `age`, or  `email`  will cause  **every consumer**  to re-render.

Since this state is now global  _and_  dynamic, it will be updated frequently. And because Context doesn’t offer fine-grained subscriptions, each update triggers a wave of unnecessary re-renders across the app.

You can do the math yourself: the more components you have, and the more often the state changes, the more wasted renders you accumulate silently.

Maybe we use zustand ?

**But hold up.**  There’s something important we need to clarify first.

React Query doesn’t exist just to clean up boilerplate or rescue us from  `useEffect`  hell. What it actually does is manage  **asychronous server state**.

And that’s a very different problem from managing  **client state** ( what zustand does ).

Why server state is fundamentally different ?

Server state can change without our knowledge. It can become stale.  
It can fail, retry, refetch, or be invalidated at any moment.

And because of that, treating server state like client state is where many problems begin.

Zustand manages client state.  
React Query manages server state.

So as we failed to defend the manual approaches we can close this article by two significant good arguments.

The first is React Query is made to manage asychronous server state and the manual approach is very limited in that.

The Second is React Query will Help you Leave The Office Early, so you can go watch a movie in the cinema or play padel or get a girlfriend. You Nerd.

The composition pattern, or **“Composition Pattern”**, is a software design approach that focuses on creating complex structures from simpler parts. Instead of relying heavily on class inheritance, the composition pattern emphasizes composing objects to achieve flexibility and code reuse.


### 1. Composition over Inheritance:

-   While inheritance involves creating base and derived classes, composition emphasizes building objects composed of other objects.
    
-   It avoids problems associated with deep inheritance hierarchies, such as increasing complexity and strong coupling.

### 2. Composed Objects:

-   Instead of inheriting behaviors, a composed object contains instances of other objects that have specific behaviors.
    
-   Each object is specialized in a specific task, promoting code reuse.

### 3. Flexibility and Modifiability:

-   Composition offers more flexibility than inheritance because it allows you to add, remove, or replace behaviors dynamically at runtime.
    
-   Changes in one component do not directly affect other components.


## Where does this apply in React?
The composition pattern is a great choice in the React world, providing a robust approach to building scalable and maintainable user interfaces. This practice stands out in several crucial areas of React development:

-   **Component Reusability:**  
    The essence of composition shines in component reusability. By creating modular building blocks, you can easily combine them to form more complex interfaces. Each component maintains its own uniqueness, promoting efficient code reuse.
    
-   **Building Complex Hierarchies:**  
    Building component hierarchies is a common task in React, and the composition pattern makes this process intuitive. Simple components can be combined to form more complex structures, accurately reflecting the logical organization of the user interface.
    
-   **Conditional and Dynamic Rendering:**  
    Composition is great when dealing with conditional rendering. Components can be composed dynamically, adapting to different states and scenarios. This results in dynamic and responsive interfaces.
    
-   **Avoiding Prop Drilling:**  
    This pattern is an effective approach to avoid “prop drilling,” where props are passed through several component levels. By strategically composing components, you prevent the need to pass props unnecessarily, keeping your code cleaner and more readable.


## Applying the Pattern in Practice

In this example, let’s create a component called **`Notification`**, which can be assembled in different ways. To keep our code cleaner and more organized, we will use the **composition pattern**. In the end, we will have this result:

Now that the project is initialized, let’s create a folder called **_components_** inside **_src_**, and then a folder called **_Notification_**, where our example code will live:

Pretty bad, right?! This approach brings problems such as increased complexity. If this approach is used repeatedly, it breaks scalability and can even be considered an “anti-pattern.”

# Data Mapper Pattern in the Frontend

### Definition

The **Data Mapper Pattern** is a fundamental technique to ensure efficient and bidirectional data transfer between the Domain layer and the Persistence layer.

Although it may seem complex, it’s actually quite simple: this pattern ensures that the layers remain independent regarding data standardization.

In the context of Frontend, we consider the following as the Domain and Persistence Layers:

### The Problem

When the frontend needs to communicate with an API, it is often necessary to manipulate the data so they follow the expected format. In addition, any change in the format returned by the Persistence layer may trigger a cascade of adjustments throughout the codebase, making everything more fragile and harder to maintain.

Imagine a GET request for user information where the backend sends fields in _snake_case_, such as `user_id`:

If the frontend standard is _camelCase_, you will need to convert `user_id` to `userId`. When this transformation happens inside components or state logic, the code becomes tightly coupled to the API format.

If the API changes this pattern tomorrow, you’ll have to update many parts of the application. Another common example: if the backend changes the `email` field from `""` to `null`, you’ll need to review every place where that validation occurs.

This is just a simple example. Now imagine this multiplied across 20 fields with more complex rules.

Another scenario: sending data to the API.

It’s common to manually build the body of a POST like this:

This approach makes the code repetitive and more error-prone. Any change in backend fields requires reviewing the entire codebase. The ideal approach is to **centralize all this handling**, ensuring simpler maintenance and avoiding inconsistencies.

### The Solution

Create **Data Mapper** files specific to each context and centralize all data transformation within them.

### Implementation

A common practice is to keep mappers close to the Persistence layer, such as inside the _services_ that perform API calls.

Recommended structure:

Each mapper is a function that receives an object and returns another one already transformed.

In other words, we receive the API format and return the format that suits the frontend.

The closer this processing stays to the _service_, the better.

This way, any part of the application already receives the processed data. If the backend changes its pattern, you only need to update a single file.

## **1. Database version control**

When we talk about system evolution, it’s impossible to ignore the role of the database. In projects that use NestJS and TypeORM, migrations work as true version control for the database, recording every structural change in an organized way. This means every creation, removal, or modification of tables and columns is documented. With this history, any developer can understand exactly how the database evolved over time. It also makes onboarding new team members much easier and prevents important changes from being lost. Projects that ignore migrations end up relying on scattered scripts and outdated databases, which constantly generates rework.


## **2. Safety and predictability in production**

One of the biggest mistakes a developer can make with TypeORM is leaving `synchronize: true` enabled in production. This configuration automatically alters the database based on entity changes, which can lead to data loss or unexpected instability. Migrations eliminate this risk because every change must be created manually, reviewed, and applied consciously. That way, you control exactly when and how the database changes. This predictability is essential in environments that deal with real data, where any failure can impact users or even compromise the business. With migrations, the database becomes as versioned and reliable as the code itself.


## **3. Guaranteed consistency across environments**

Misaligned environments are a common issue in teams: local, staging, and production often end up with different database structures, causing errors that are hard to identify. By using migrations, all environments go through the same sequence of changes, ensuring the database is identical everywhere. This drastically reduces bugs that only appear in production or that can’t be reproduced locally. Consistent environments also improve the deployment workflow and make automation easier. Without migrations, maintaining this alignment becomes almost impossible and opens the door to silent failures that show up too late. With migrations, consistency stops being a challenge and becomes a natural part of the process.

## **4. Rollback capability and fast recovery**

Mistakes happen, even in well-organized projects. The difference is in how you respond. With migrations, each change has a forward and backward path, allowing you to revert database modifications with a simple command. This is extremely useful when a deploy causes unexpected effects or when a schema adjustment needs to be tested in production. Rollback capability gives the team the confidence to evolve the system, knowing that any change can be undone safely and quickly. Without it, fixing database issues becomes risky, involving manual scripts, complex restores, or prolonged downtime.

## **5. Organization and team collaboration**

In teams—especially fast-growing ones—several people may modify the database at the same time. Without migrations, this leads to conflicts, rework, and lost information. Migrations bring clarity by documenting each change with author, date, and description, allowing precise reviews during pull requests. This strengthens communication between developers, makes it easier to understand the reasoning behind each change, and reduces versioning conflicts. Additionally, the organization migrations provide ensures the database becomes part of the natural development flow, not a bottleneck full of surprises. Collaboration becomes smoother, and the team works with more confidence.

## **6. Natural integration with pipelines and automation**

In modern environments—especially those using CI/CD—migrations are essential. They allow the database to be updated automatically during deployment, ensuring the application is always compatible with the expected schema. When migrations are part of the pipeline, the process becomes much safer and more standardized, eliminating manual steps that could lead to human error. Automation also allows tests to run on databases configured exactly like production, increasing confidence in release quality. Companies that take stability, scalability, and continuous delivery seriously simply cannot operate without migrations, since they provide predictability and control throughout the development lifecycle.

Designing modern interfaces requires more than just aesthetics—it demands structure, consistency, and a solid foundation that supports growth. This is where **Atomic Design**, created by **Brad Frost**, becomes one of the most influential methodologies in UI development. Its proposal is simple but powerful: break the interface into the smallest possible parts, understand their roles, and compose them into increasingly complex structures.

## **A New Way to Understand Interfaces**

Atomic Design takes inspiration from chemistry. Just like atoms, molecules, and organisms form the basis of the physical world, Frost suggests that digital interfaces can be built from small, independent components that become more complex as they combine. ## **Atoms: The Fundamental Building Blocks**

Atoms are the smallest and most essential elements of an interface. They cannot be broken down further and serve as the foundation for everything else. Colors, typography styles, buttons, input fields, or simple icons—these are atoms. Even though they seem basic, their consistency is crucial because they establish the visual identity of the system. Once defined, they rarely change drastically, ensuring long-term stability.

## **Molecules: Simple Combinations with a Purpose**

When atoms come together, they form molecules—components that already have a clear purpose. An input field combined with a label and an icon may form a search bar. Molecules still retain simplicity, but they begin to create meaningful functionality that can be reused in different parts of the interface.

## **Organisms: Functional and Structured Components**

Organisms are larger, more complex structures made from multiple molecules and atoms. A header with a logo, navigation links, and a search component is a good example. At this level, the interface starts gaining shape, and teams can visualize how the smaller pieces interact in real contexts.

## **Templates: The First Look at the Page Structure**

Templates define the structure of a page. They arrange organisms into layout patterns without focusing on actual content. Templates provide a clear blueprint of spacing, hierarchy, and flow, helping teams understand how the interface will behave as a whole.

## **Pages: Where Everything Comes Together**

Pages represent the final stage, where real content and data populate the templates. They show how the entire design system performs in authentic scenarios. Pages highlight inconsistencies, validate decisions, and prepare the product for delivery.
